Joint Process Committee (JPC)

The Constitution and Canons of the Episcopal Church do not specify in detail how a Diocese is to select a bishop, saying only: "In every Diocese the Bishop or Bishop Coadjutor shall be chosen agreeably to rules prescribed by the Convention of that Diocese."  (Constitution of the General Convention, Art. II, Sec. 1)

Therefore, when the Second Bishop of El Camino Real announced his intention to call for the election of a bishop coadjutor at the Annual Meeting of Convention in January 2004, the Standing Committee proposed, and the Diocesan Council and the Diocesan Corporation approved, the formation of a Joint Process Committee to prepare for the election.  This Joint Process Committee consisted of representatives from the Standing Committee, Diocesan Council and Diocesan Corporation.
