Information and Details about Ordination of the Bishop-Elect

Plans for the ordination of the Bishop-Elect, The Ven. Mary Gray-Reeves, are underway.  The ordination will take place at 11:00 am on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Saint Andrew’s Church in Saratoga.  This is a very special event in the life of The Diocese of El Camino Real and we welcome your attendance and participation.

NO ONE WILL BE ADMITTED WITHOUT A TICKET

Because of limited seating at Saint Andrew’s, tickets will be required for admission.  Each person attending the ordination must have a ticket and must be seated in the church by 10:15 am.  Several categories of tickets will be distributed in order to facilitate seating locations and adequate numbers of seats.  In order to determine how many General Admission tickets will be made available, we need to know from you, in advance, whether you plan to attend the ordination or not.  If you are on the distribution list of this memo, we need to have a response from you as soon as possible but no later than Friday, October 5 so that we will be able to calculate how many tickets to release to others.  We want to make sure that as many people as possible have the opportunity to be in attendance for this important day.

Clergy, canonically resident or serving under license, are eligible to receive ONE ticket.  Clergy are encouraged to vest and process, but will still need a ticket.

The following are eligible to receive ONE ticket:

  • Convention Delegates
  • Standing Committee Lay Members
  • Diocesan Council Lay Members
  • Diocesan Corporation Lay Members
  • Commission on Ministry Lay Members
  • Search Committee Lay Members
  • Transition Committee Lay Members
  • Diocesan Staff Lay Members
  • Deanery Conveners (Lay)
  • DIEM Members (Lay)
  • Bishop’s Cross Recipients (Lay)
  • Chancellor and Vice-Chancellors
  • Secretary of the Diocese
  • Treasurer of the Diocese
  • Dispatch of Business

Note: If you are in more than one of these groups, you still only get to request one ticket.

All members of the Standing Committee, Commission on Ministry, Search and Transition Committees are invited to process during the ordination liturgy.  All Clergy who are vesting and processing should include that information in the RSVP email.

How to RSVP

All RSVPs should be received via email.  Please send your response to this address:

tickets[atecr]StLukesLG.org with a subject line reflecting your category—for instance “Standing Committee-Clergy” or “DIEM Member.”  Please include the name of your church and any overlapping categories in the body of the message.  If you cannot attend, please let us know so that others may be offered these seats.

Anyone who does not RSVP via email by October 5th will not receive a ticket.  After the electronic RSVPs are tallied we will notify rectors and vicars of how tickets will be distributed for parishioners and others who did not fit in one of the categories listed above.

After you have submitted your RSVP, you will receive your tickets at Diocesan Convention on October 26-27.

Parking

Parking will be available in the lots at West Valley College with shuttle service available to Saint Andrew’s.  Handicapped parking for those holding state-issued placards will be available in the Saint Andrew’s lot.  If you need handicapped parking, please include a request for a Saint Andrew’s lot parking permit in your RSVP email.

General Admission Tickets

General admission tickets will be issued to each parish and mission after the RSVP deadline.  The number of tickets each church receives will be determined by the number of delegates to diocesan convention.  Clergy and lay leaders should plan for the distribution of these tickets as they think best; please consider including clergy spouses in your parish allotment.  Each ticket will admit one person.  All attendees must be in their seats by 10:15 am when the doors will be opened to all.  There will be limited overflow seating in the Saint Andrew’s Parish Center with video of the service.

Volunteer Opportunities

A limited number of volunteer slots are available for choir members, parking, security, ushers, greeters, flower arrangers, and reception staff.  This would enable someone to be part of the day, though most of these positions are “behind the scenes.”

Please contact the following:

Liturgical Ministers

We ask that each parish send its banner (with stand) and designate a person to carry the banner for the opening procession.  Banner bearers without a ticket will sit in overflow seating during the service.

There will also be limited opportunities for ministers of communion for the liturgy for those already allotted tickets.  These positions will be filled by a lottery.  If you would like to be considered, please contact the Rev. Mary K. Morrison at mary[atecr]StLukesLG.org

Clergy: if you would like acolytes (ages 12-21) from your parish to be considered for participation in the liturgy, please contact Mary at mary[atecr]StLukesLG.org.  These will also be chosen by lottery.
