Farewell parties for Bishop Romero

We give thanks for the ministry of Bishop Sylvestre and Eva among us.  Over one hundred people attended the Monterey Deanery event on Friday, August 24th and the San Luis Obispo Deanery feted the Bishop and Eva at a luncheon on Sunday, August 26th.  The Santa Clara Deanery will celebrate on September 8th at St. Timothy’s, Mountain View.

Welcome for Bishop-Elect Mary

Members of the Transition Committee met Michael Reeves and the U-Haul.  They had stocked the refrigerator in the rental house prior to his arrival.  Willing helpers assisted with the unloading of the truck and ordered pizza for dinner.

Transition Committee members in the Monterey area have also compiled a list to help make the Gray-Reeves family’s transition go smoothly—physicians, hairdressers, great places to eat, etc.
They are somewhat settled in their temporary home in Salinas and both Katie and Dorian have started school.

Bishop-Elect Gray-Reeves will be in the office after Labor Day.  She and Bishop Romero will work together until his last day, September 18th.  Bishop-Elect Gray-Reeves will go to the House of Bishops meeting in late September if we have received the requisite number of consents before the meeting.

Ordination

Plans are coming together for Bishop-Elect Mary Gray-Reeves’ ordination on Saturday, November 10th, at St. Andrew’s Church in Saratoga.  In order to facilitate attendance by people from throughout the diocese, tickets will be required for admission.  The ticket policy will be sent after the first of September.  Clergy, delegates, and other lay leaders must RSVP to reserve tickets.  When we have an accurate count, the remaining tickets will be distributed to the parishes and missions.  The clergy and lay leaders of each congregation will decide on how those tickets are to be distributed.

There will also be volunteer opportunities—choir members, security, greeters, ushers, and hosts for the reception.  Watch for announcements.

For those not able to attend the ordination, there will be opportunities to meet and greet Bishop-Elect Mary Gray-Reeves following the ordination.  She will be “seated” at the Cathedral and there will be welcoming events in the three parts of the diocese.  She will begin her visitations on Sunday, December 2nd.
