Diocesan Convention 2006, Session 2

The next meeting of Convention will be held October 21, 2006.  On Friday, October 20, 2006, trainings and hearings will be held.  The hotel is the Embassy Suites in San Luis Obispo.  Click here for more information about accommodations in the area.

Background:  As part of transitioning from holding the annual meeting in January, for the 2006 budget and other legislation, the schedule for meetings of convention for 2005 and 2006 is unusual. See the bottom of the page for an explanation of how each meeting of convention is being designated.

Convention Designations

The customary designation of diocesan convention is to name a meeting for the year in which it is held. Because of the transition from meeting in convention annually in January to meeting in October, the 2005-2006 schedule is unusual, and includes more than one meeting of convention for 2006. A special meeting of convention was held All Saints' Watsonville on October 29, 2005, which included the presentation of the narrative budget for 2006.  A second convention day will be held on January 28, 2006 in Salinas. By canon law, there can be only one annual meeting of convention. Consequently, the January meeting is designated as Diocesan Convention, Session 1, to be recessed until October 2006. The meeting of convention in October 2006, for consideration of the 2007 budget and other legislation, will be designated as Diocesan Convention 2006, Session 2. Thereafter, meetings of convention will be held annually in October. Special legislation was passed to allow voting on budget and other legislation to occur more than once in a calendar year.

So, Convention designations are as follows:

January 2005:  Diocesan Convention 2005
October 2005:  Special Meeting of Convention, all documents under:
January 2006:  Diocesan Convention 2006, Session 1, recessed until:
October 2006:  Diocesan Convention 2006, Session 2 (this page)
