I appreciated the report of the DESC and the information conveyed.  It was helpful.  It would not have been as confusing if they had not sent out the e-mail on April 21 with the list of questions for discussion.  St. Jude’s called an “emergency” meeting of Vestry, Delegates, and Clergy on Saturday, April 22, to develop responses to those questions.  Our responses are not earth-shaking, but the meeting was unnecessary since the DESC was not prepared to lead a discussion of them.

As a member of the Bishop Search Committee, I am particularly eager that the DESC develop a structure and funding formula which will be supported by the Diocese, i.e., Convention in October.  I am especially interested that the structure be based on our core values, vision, and mission, so that all of them are clear to potential candidates for our next Bishop.

I got the impression last night that our meetings over the past two years plus the recent profile say we have too many values, visions, and missions to be enumerated.  That is unacceptable.  We must know who we are and where we believe we should go, or how else can the Search Committee find the right person to lead us?
