General Convention 2006

Introducing Your Deputies:  Donna Ross

June 17, 2006

The Rev. Donna Ross, a first-time Deputy to General Convention, recently retired as rector of St. Paul’s, Cambria. In the diocese, she now serves as Communications Coordinator and secretary of the Diocesan Evaluation and Structure Committee (DESC). As a new deputy, she has not been assigned to a General Convention committee, but has been observing the work of the Special Committee on the Episcopal Church and the Anglican Communion, which is crafting legislation in response to the Windsor Report.

Donna’s comments on her first General Convention experience echo the comments of other ECR Deputies: “Convention is a kaleidoscope of feelings: it’s consciousness-raising, effervescent, focused, grueling, inspiring, joyful and deeply moving, representative, respectful, rewarding and stimulating – and filled with amazing opportunities to see the Spirit and grace of God at work.”

She adds, “I don’t see how General Convention deputies and bishops could function without the support of their spouses and partners: Jill Cockrell, Gil Grady, Eva Romero, Rob Ross and Diane Snow are here with us, helping to keep each of us alive and well. Jill, Diane, and Jonathan Romero (Silito’s son and Bishop Romero’s grandson) have also served the Convention as official Volunteers. What a wonderful deputation this is!”
